Billy Ray Saulsberry Sr., age 84, of Townsend, passed away May 1, 2016 at his home in Townsend of natural causes.
Billy was born on September 1, 1931 in Fayetteville, Arkansas to William E. and Helen J. (Riley) Salsbery. He joined the United States Navy at the age of 18 and gave the country 22 years of service. In 1964, he married Demetria Dietrich in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they raised 8 children. Upon retiring from the United States Navy, he returned to Kansas. While there, he worked for Tek-Tank until moving to Montana in 1976. In Montana he worked for the local saw mill until his retirement.
Billy is survived by sons: Billy (Wanda) Saulsberry Jr., Ed Scow, and Don Scow; daughters: Debra (Cliff) Wagomon, Pamela Hendrix, Anndina (Lynn) Halvorsen, and Jeanette (Jason) Roberts; Brothers: Kenny (Carol Colleen) Salsbery, Alvin (Linda) Salsbery, and Larry (Pat) Salsbery; a sister: Carolyn (Larry) Bennett; 24 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and In-laws.
Billy is preceded in death by his wife Demetria Saulsberry; parents, William E. and Helen Jewel (Riley) Salsbery; brothers: Jerry Salsbery, Russell Salsbery, and Bobby Salsbery; sisters: Helen Young and Bertha Salsbery; sister-in-law: Carol Lee Salsbery; a son: Michael Scow; granddaughter: Marilyn Boone; and a great-granddaughter: Jezeriah Byrd.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Retz Funeral Home, Helena, MT.A Graveside Service with Military Honors is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2016 at Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Harrison.
