Charles Franklin Jagger III (Chuck), age 54, of Montana City, was born May 23, 1957 in Denver, CO and grew up on his grandparents’ ranch. He began his life-long love affair with technology when he was a teen, working as a computer operator while still in school. After his 1975 graduation from high school in Golden, CO and a short stint in the US Air Force, he became a systems programmer, working for both Western Bancorp and Nordstrom in Seattle. A few years later he took a position with National Bank of Alaska in Anchorage and then moved on to British Petroleum, where his final project was the consolidation of the BP and Aleyeska Pipeline data center.
In 1992 Chuck began working for BlueCross BlueShield of Montana in Helena. He was involved with the first major PC deployment, and over the years, was responsible for the company networks throughout Montana, bringing Internet connectivity to the company, and he progressed through the management ranks, serving for five years as the Director of IT Infrastructure. Most recently he held the position of Enterprise Architect to help plan and support the company’s future information technology infrastructure.
Chuck had many interests outside of work, including reading, photography, and following the Denver Broncos and Montana Grizzlies. He explored his curiosity about the world around him and what made things work, which gained him a wide range of knowledge. He maintained a weather station, participating in the Citizen Weather Observer Program, and was a member of the Weather Underground Data Exchange. One of Chuck’s favorite things was cooking and grilling, and friends and family alike looked forward to his deliciously prepared meals. Chuck loved children, animals and wild places, especially Yellowstone, and was a proud supporter of Vital Ground.
Chuck was killed on May 8 while enjoying a beautiful afternoon on his motorcycle. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Karl and Louise Ramstetter, and his beloved dog Misty. He is survived by his mother Karol Ramstetter; aunts, Marie Ramstetter and Jeanne Hostetler; great aunts, Ruthie Ogg and Daisy Ramstetter; numerous cousins; and his precious puppies, Belle and Booger. Chuck was trustworthy and sincere, and a loving son, nephew and friend. He always had a ready smile and helping hand, and he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Retz Funeral Home Chapel. A reception will follow the service at the American Legion Post No 2, 3095 Villard Ave., Helena. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Loma Cat House, 929 Main Street, Grand Junction CO 81501 or The Vital Ground Foundation, T-2 Fort Missoula, Missoula MT 59804. When you needed information or didn’t know where to turn for help, you called Chuck. When you wanted honest feedback or guidance – with no sugar-coating — Chuck delivered. His heart and generosity were large. His intelligence was wide-ranging and ever-expanding.
I’m not so sure you will want to rest in peace, Mr. Jagger! It is easier for me to imagine that you would rather get busy increasing St. Peter’s data base capacity, then re-mapping a new heavenly network and infrastructure diagram, just for starters. Rock on!
Our family’s prayers will remain with you and your family over the coming days.
