Ann Marie (Herold) Alford, 95, of Helena, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at her residence in Helena.
Ann Alford was born to Frederick ‘Fritz’ and Anna (Guettler) Herold on July 29, 1915 in Helena, MT. She grew up on a farm in Lump Gulch and attended High Schools at the St. Vincent Academy in Missoula, and also Sand Point, ID, before graduating an Honor Student from Helena High in 1935.
Ann worked for a short time at Eddy’s Bakery until her marriage to Fred Schimpf in 1936. Fred preceded her in death in 1952. She worked for the Telephone Co. and then later for the State Department of Administration Accounting Division for 26 years until her retirement. After retiring, Ann worked part time for the Legislative Council and the Teacher’s Retirement Division.
Ann married Willis ‘Al’ Alford in August of 1954 and he preceded her in death in 1988. Survivors include her daughters, Doris J. (Harold) Shepherd of Helena and Phyllis A. (Mel) McBeath of Clancy, MT; a sister, Johanna Dandro of Helena; four grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; spouses, Fred Schimpf and Al Alford; and brothers, John Herold and Fred Herold.
Per Ann’s request, no formal services will be held and burial will be held at Forestvale Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.
