Carina Robin Otteson completed the earthly portion of her life on June 23, 2021, after a brief illness, surrounded by family and friends. She died at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena, Montana, where she was born to Kathy Shorten and Phil Kennedy almost 43 years before: on July 11, 1978.
Robin lived most of her life in Helena. She loved her family and her friends. She had a long hard struggle for sobriety and health, and she never stopped trying: she had a hard life, and she had setbacks, but she never gave up. Robin was a talented and dedicated artist: a painter of lovely landscapes and still lifes. She had a brave and kind and generous heart. She touched many hearts and lives. Robin, we will never forget you!
Robin is survived by her children: Darian Watson (and his family: Mae, Renee, Jim, Kevin and Shyanne), Nina Philippi, and Justine Philippi. She is also survived by her younger sisters Kathryn Bogard, Bobbie (Jeremy) Shatto, and Bonny Karch, her stepbrother Shawn Bogard, and 13 nieces and nephews; her adoptive father Gary (Sarah) Otteson; aunt Luane (Kermit) Jones; uncle Dave Shorten, and many cousins. She is also survived by John Bogard, Don (Tori) Wark, many friends, and her numerous Alano Club family. Special mention to friend Glenn Uncles, who made it possible for her family to be with Robin in her final hours. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her mother Kathy, uncle Gary Shorten, and cousins Casey Shorten and Justin Jones.
Services will be held at Retz Funeral Home, 315 E. 6th Ave., Helena, Montana, on Wednesday, June 30th, 2021. Visitation/viewing at 9:30 AM, funeral service at 10:00 AM (Fr. Russell Radoicich, presiding) followed by burial at the Jefferson City Cemetery after the service. All of Robin’s friends are welcome to join her family for all of those events and for a reception in Jefferson City immediately following.

So sorry to hear of Robin’s passing. Her struggles didn’t define her ~ the fact that she kept trying, and that she continued to be so loving and kind despite those struggles, and that she held her children in her heart, that is what defined her. My heart goes out to Robin’s family.
