On April 6, 2013 Dan Dean Berg passed into eternity with his mother and two loving aunts, Vera and Irene at his side. He was born in Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow, MT with Dr. Phil Smith assisting on February 2, 1961.
His early childhood was spent on Jet Drive and when he was in the 3rd grade the family moved to Helena. He attended Central School and spent the next school years in a country school near Conrad, MT. He then went back to Helena for the remainder of his school years. In 1979 he graduated from Capital High School. While still in school he worked before and after school hours. His working life was construction, some in Helena and some in other places. He didn’t mind working hard and had a great work ethic.
He was very loved and was a very special person to all who knew him well. To say he will be missed greatly is an understatement that doesn’t even begin to describe it. His daughter Sherra was a wonderful gift he was given and also his grandson Devin.
One of Dan’s greatest joys was to be able to hunt and fish. He had a special chair he could use on all of his fishing trips. Another enjoyment he found was to help his friends children learn to fish. He gave them fishing rods and loved to see the pleasure on their faces. He was also a good cook. His specialty was to cook a huge omelet to share with friends and family and also smoking fish. Needless to say, he loved the outdoors, especially the Black Sandy Area. Dan enjoyed mining gold. He also had a very special connection with animals especially his beloved cat, Scrubber D. A Kinder heart is not to be found and he was very generous to many. Very recently he had a gift from God that he did not expect. His best friend for over 30 years, Dan DeMers, took him to look at the lake. The next 2 days he brought him on a fishing trip to Black Sandy and he caught a nice trout. Both Dan’s were amazed and elated!
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Harvey L. Berg in 2011. Survivors include: mother, Louise M. Fournier of Helena; daughter, Sherra Mallory and grandson, Devin Q. Mallory of Seattle, WA; brothers, Gary (Monica) Berg of Williston, ND and Craig Berg of Eugene, OR and his niece, Stacy Berg of San Marcos, TX. He is also survived by many other family members and friends.
Special thanks to his great friends, Dan DeMers and Kevin Kennedy who were instrumental in his last days. Also would like to thank Hospice of St. Peters for their loving care.

To the family of Dan….I am so sorry for your loss. I was a neighbor of Dan’s and used to talk to him all the time and loved to bug him for fish, I was so glad to hear that he went fishing last week as I know that was something that made him happy. Sincerely, Sue Lane

I met Dan in April of 1979 and still am laughing at all the great memories I have of him and the crazy people we hung out with. Dan truly was the type of person that would do anything for his friends. The last time I saw him was a couple of years ago and just like Gina he had a big hug for me as well. I’m going to miss you my friend. Say hi to Wade for me, and I’ll see you soon. My thoughts and prayers go to Dan’s family.

Dan was a customer at my store, I didn’t know him well, but I can tell you he was genuine, because everything I just read, is the customer I knew. He brought a smile to all of us each time we saw him, usually he was on his way to fish! God bless him, we will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family at this very sad time.

To Gary, Craig, Sherra, Louise and other family members—
I was saddened to hear of Dan’s passing. My family enjoyed talking and fishing with him a few years ago at Georgetown Lake where we had gone to scatter the ashes of my son who was the same age. Dan will suffer no more pain and I offer my deepest sympathy.

I met Dan in 79′ as well through my best friend Stacy Morrison, and as Stacy mentioned we all had many many great times together back in the days of our youth. Dan was always the life of our gatherings, who’s presence was required to ensure the best time. I will never forget running into Dan in Oct of 83′ when I was about to move to southern California, he insisted he do a major tuneup on my vehicle which he purchased all the parts for, did all the work, and refused to accept any money from me stating “you’re going to need every penny you have for your move”.. I never ever forgot his huge heart and sincere generosity, and thank God I was able to see him in 2004 to tell him that.. I look forward to seeing him in heaven so he can take me fishing, and show me how to drive a car in the manner that only Dan could.. I miss you my dear friend
