Dorothy Ann Christine (Nelson) Jenkins, age 79, passed away in the early morning hours of July 6, 2013. She died of complications during cancer treatment. She was born January 10, 1934 in Halliday, North Dakota. She was one of six children born to Nels and Marie (Charvat) Nelson.
Dot was raised in Zimmerman Minnesota and graduated high school in 1952. She then graduated from Swedish Hospital of Nursing, Minneapolis in 1955. Pursuing her nursing career she worked at the University Hospital of Minnesota, Shodair Children’s Hospital in Helena and with Dr. R.S. Buswell Allergy Clinic. She also worked at the Saudi Arabia Air Defense forces Clinic in Jeddah.
Dot married Gary W. Jenkins in 1955 and had two children Karin and Grady. A wonderful wife and mother she kept herself busy with home, family, grandkids, holidays and summers at the lake cabin in Minnesota. Always happy and positive and loved dearly by all.
Dot is survived by her husband Gary, her two children Karin Moore, Grady, his wife Cynthia (Petee) and their two children George and Libby. Sisters Betty (Sis) Anderson of Bozeman, Montana; Karin Olson of Beaverton, Oregon; and Brother Richard Nelson of Elk River, Minnesota. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Marie T. Nelson and Nels F. Nelson. Two siblings Willis and Ewald.
The family wishes to extend our sincere gratitude to the caring and wonderful staff at St. Peters Hospital Oncology wing. Exceptional.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday July 10, 2013 from 4-6 p.m. at Retz Funeral home 315 East Sixth Avenue. A graveside service will be Thursday July 11, 2013 10:30 a.m. at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery. Memorials in Dot’s name are suggested to St. Peters Hospice 2475 Broadway Helena, MT 59601 and The Salvation Army; 1905 Henderson Helena, MT 59601.
