Mike Murphy says
To Doug’s family, I am very sorry for your loss. I started in Bridge a few months after Doug did, and spent a bunch of time in the handball court with him since.
Happy Trails Doug, and Peace Be With You. You’ve earned both.
Louis Chinske and Lynda Hartless says
We will always remember those killer doubles matches Doug and Louis played in Sandpoint, ID. We really got to know you well at that tournament. We enjoyed your presence at all the handball tournaments. You didn’t miss too many of them. You will be missed in Missoula.
John E. Andrew says
Through the years I’ve worked with Doug as a designer at the Dept. of Transportation, he in the Bridge Bureau and myself in the Highways Bureau/Hydraulics Section, so we both had interactions with each other on work related projects. From there we played soccer, tennis, and racquetball with and against each for almost 30 years so I knew him quite well…I have to say Ihe was one of the most daring people I knew, trying everything from flying ultralights to fighting his way through the toughest Bridge projects that they could give him. Rest easy my friend, you deserve it.
Todd Timboe says
Godspeed Doug. You will be missed. I don’t think you and I ever lost a doubles match. Undefeated baby! You were a great friend. Reserve a court for us on the other side.
Steve Rumley says
Doug was on my crew in the Bridge Bureau when I first started. In a few weeks he asked if I would help him with his calculus class. So for several months, we hammered away at calculus at my house or his, sometimes at work. I was impressed by Doug’s determination and perserverance on this frustrating project but more by his desire to improve himself. Doug was kind to me and treated me with respect as long as I knew him.
Rest in peace, Doug.
Kelley Little says
Doug was a friend of my husband’s in college, and a guest at our house several times over the years. My observation is that he made lemonade out of lemons more than once in his life, and I for one am glad to have known him.
