Jeanne Cannon went to heaven with her family by her side on January 13, 2014 after a short yet courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Jeanne was born April 18, 1958, in Butte, Montana, to Anne and Thomas Joseph “Joe” Mooney.
Jeanne graduated from Great Falls High School in December 1975. Following high school Jeanne moved with her family to Butte, Montana, where she met her future husband Frank Cannon at Eggers IGA. On October 1, 1976, Frank and Jeanne were married at St. Joseph’s Church in Butte. Frank and Jeanne started their family first with a son, Ryan, and twin girls, Kayti and Kodie, shortly thereafter. In 1984, Frank and Jeanne moved their family from Butte to Helena, Montana, which became their permanent home.
In 1990, Jeanne decided to go back to school to earn her college degree. While caring for her young family and working as a licensed pharmacy technician, Jeanne graduated with honors from Carroll College’s class of 1997 with one Bachelor’s Degree in Community Health and another in Health Information Management. Jeanne held several professional positions in Helena over the years and she most recently was the Program Manager for the Montana Asthma Control Program at the State of Montana’s Department of Public Health and Human Services.
Above all else, Jeanne thrived as a super-star grandma. She enjoyed every minute spent with her four grandkids. She had a special and unique relationship with each of them. Jeanne’s generous heart was clearly apparent when it came to her grandkids. She never missed an opportunity to shower each of them with toys, clothes, and the yummiest treats in town. Jeanne also enjoyed spending time together as a family, baking, boating, camping, shopping, and learning to play the mandolin. The holidays, especially Christmas, were some of Jeanne’s favorite times. Jeanne was also an active member at St. Helena Cathedral Parish and volunteered over the years for Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Jeanne is survived by her loving husband, Frank Cannon; her children Ryan Cannon (Decatur, IL), Kayti and Eric Bashore (Billings, MT), and Kodie and Justin Whisenhunt (Bozeman, MT); four grandchildren, Lana, Brooke, Blake, and Ellie; numerous brothers and sisters and their spouses, including Kay Mooney, Ed and Peggy Mooney, Dianne and Darold Eberhardt, Mike and Jill Mooney, Theresa and Jim Blazek, Mary and Brian Harrison, Jodi and Terry Holzwarth, and Toni and Marty Doornbos; in-laws including Sue Atkinson, Tom and Dianne Cannon, and Pat and Larry McGrath; and many nieces and nephews.
Jeanne is preceded in death by her father Joe Mooney, her mother Anne Mooney, her brother Joe Mooney, and her mother-in-law Margaret Cannon.
Jeanne’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the doctors and nurses at St. Peter’s Hospital for their extraordinary care and kindness extended to Jeanne and her family throughout her time in the hospital over the last couple months.

Mary Reynolds says
May you see God’s light on the path ahead
When the road you walk is dark.
May you always hear,
Even in your hour of sorrow,
The gentle singing of the lark.
When times are hard may hardness
Never turn your heart to stone,
May you always remember
when the shadows fall
You do not walk alone. ~ Irish Blessing
Although no words can really help to ease your loss, just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer.

Joanne Oreskovich says
We are all so saddened of her passing. We worked for the same Division a long time without knowing each other, but when she found out I was from Anaconda and she was a “Butte girl” we had a shared understanding and spirit. One day we got on the topic of uptown Butte and how a movie portrayed Evil Knievel as a kid driving his bike on the dunes and disappearing down a mine shaft. Jeanne told me a similar story when she and her husband were first married; he was in a hurry and parked his truck with her in it on the sidewalk to run into the store. Well, lo and behold, the truck fell through the sidewalk and they had to get her out of it while using two tow trucks to retrieve it from its depth. We laughed and laughed. I asked her if she sued the city of Butte, and she said “No, we were parked illegally.” We laughed some more. I will miss this Montana gem.

I’m so very sorry for your loss! I only met Jeanne one time back in 2003 while we were at Seeley Lake, but I remember her as being a very lovely person! She sent us a beautiful pink dress for our daughter when she was born and I remember thinking that was very sweet. Our daughter wore that dress for her one year pictures. Since I only met Jeanne the one time, these are really the only memories I have. But nonetheless, I feel your pain and I’m so very saddened for your loss! Sending hugs and prayers to you during this difficult time!
