JoAnn Evans, 81, passed away from cancer on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at home with her family by her side.
JoAnn was born on March 8, 1935 in Ada, MN to Edwin J. Holm and Anna (Hogan) Holm. She grew up on a farm outside of Ada with her siblings Mildred, Erling and Lillian; JoAnn was the youngest.
On February 14, 1956 she married Jack E. Evans in Glendive, MT. The couple moved to Billings, MT where their daughter Tamara and son Hal were born. The family moved to Helena where JoAnn began working at Safeway as a cashier, retiring in 2000 after 38 years.
JoAnn was a sweet, kind, generous, giving soul who above all loved her family. Her greatest joy was anytime spent with family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved trips to visit family in Minnesota. Road trips, picnics, celebrating birthdays, dogs, garage sales, shopping, bowling, and Molly B’s Polka Party were some of the many things she enjoyed and looked forward to . She cared greatly about the less fortunate and the downtrodden in life with always a kind word, encouragement and acceptance/approval.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Erling, her husband, Jack, her son, Hal and her grandson, Bryan.
She is survived by: daughter, Tammy Zimmerman; grandchildren, Teresa Zimmerman, Kevin (Josselyn) Zimmerman and James Zimmerman; great grandchildren, Kendra Zimmerman, Marissa Zimmerman, Lillyana Zimmerman, Lois Zimmerman, son-in-law, Terry Zimmerman all of Helena; sisters’, Mildred McNamer (Moorhead, MN), Lila Holm (Mahnomen, MN) and Lillian Dyrdahl (Ada, MN); also surviving are many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jessica Bailey and Hospice of St. Peter’s for the compassionate care they gave to JoAnn.
A memorial service celebrating JoAnn’s life will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 4th at Retz Funeral Home, 315 E. 6th Avenue, Helena. A graveside service will immediately follow the service at Forestvale Cemetery, 490 Forestvale Road, Helena. A reception will be announced at the service.
