Mark Alan Johnson, 50, passed from this life on September 23, 2012. He and his wife Teresa were returning from a motorcycle trip to Glacier National Park when tragedy took his life. He left this world doing what he loved doing with the person he loved the most.
Mark was born on November 4, 1961 in Portland, Oregon. Being from an Air Force family, he lived from coast to coast during his childhood. He graduated from Mountain Home High School in Idaho in 1980. In 2003, he moved to Helena and fell in love with Montana. He graduated from Carroll College with a Civil Engineering degree in 2007 and took a job with the City of Helena in the Engineering Department.
On June 5, 2010, he married his best friend and true love, Teresa Haney. Mark’s other great love was for his son Cameron. He was so very proud of Cameron and loved him so, so much. He also lit up the life of his three grandchildren, Tracy, Tessa and Tyson. He loved each of these children as though they were his own.
In 1980, Mark served the Native American community as a full time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Holbrook, Arizona. He loved serving these children of God in their humble surroundings. He has been an active member of the LDS church here in Helena.
Mark is survived by his wife Teresa, son Cameron, mother Lynda, father Barry, brother Philip (Tami), and three sisters Mary Jane Jaeckel (Eric), Norma Solem, and Darci Garwood. He is also survived by nine nieces and nephews.

I met Mark through school activities at Montana City School. He was always a pleasure to visit with and what stood out the most was how involved he was with his son Cameron and how proud he was of his boy. Mark will be greatly missed. My thoughts go out to his family during this difficult time.

Thank you so much for all the care you gave to me as a brother. My love for you grew the past several years as you let me share in some of the trials that you were faced with. You always had your door open for me and welcomed me in while I worked here in Helena. I love you brother and will always remember you for that kindness. Although Helena will never be the same, my memories will serve me well until we meet again… Love Philip

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Mark’s death – he was one of the eternal optimists in my life and I always loved his smile, his ability to shake off disappointment and move on. I know how much Theresa meant to him and how happy he was to have found her to share his life and love. Mark made my time at the City of Helena a better place to work and I will always be grateful that I was able to be one of his “city” friends. Please accept my sympathy and prayers. Bernadette
