Mary Jane Spiroff, age 87, of Helena passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023. She was born June 29, 1936, to Walter and Esther Schumm of Perham, Minnesota. In her young age her family moved to Montana to the Hysham area. Mary Jane graduated from high school in Hysham. She and Raymond F. Spiroff were married in 1956 and they made their home in Billings until 1969 when they moved to Helena. Mary Jane then went to work for the Office of Public Instruction in 1978 until her retirement in 1995. In her retirement, Mary Jane loved to travel, spend time with family and friends work with flowers and plants and helping others.
Mary Jane is survived by her husband, Ray of Helena; daughter, Sharon (Barry) McNeice and granddaughter, Lauren all of San Deigo, CA; daughter, Carol (Mike) Petersen of Bend, Oregon; son, Wayne (Kim) Spiroff and grandson, Zachary all of East Helena; sisters, Dorrine Kapptie of Great Falls, and Lorraine (Larry) Walter of Billings. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Mary Jane requested a private service to be held at a later date with a special goodbye to all her friends. Mary Jane will be laid to rest at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Ft. Harrison, Montana.
Memorials in Mary Jane’s name is suggested to the Lewis and Clark Humane Society, P.O. Box 4455 Helena, Montana 59604 or to an organization or charity of the donor’s choice.
