My Father Stewart M Carlson was a Hero to the people and the community great and small. No task or problem was impossible for him to accomplish, if something needing doing he could do it no matter the task. We will all miss you for the world is a little less great now that you’ve moved on to bigger and better things.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear of Stewie’s passing. I worked for him at INS for 3 years. All I can say is, he was a wonderful man, full of love and laughter for all. He helped me through some really tough life decisions and I will be forever grateful. To his boys, please remember your father fondly. He loved you more than life itself. He was proud of you! May warm memories comfort you in this time of sorrow.

Stuart worked for me for many years at INS. He was always a joy to work with and I know very few people who were always as willing to help others, both on the job and off, as Stu. After I retired and moved on to other vetures, Stu and I would occasionally see each other and discuss what we wanted to do “when we grew up.” Yours was cut way to short Stu. Our thoughts to the Carlson family.
Scott Swingley says
I am very fortunate to have counted Stu as one of my good friends.I have known few men of his caliber. I will miss our conversations over a cup of coffee, discussing firearms as well as many other subjects that Stu knew so well. A truly great man has passed but he won’t be forgotten. I miss you my friend.

I knew Stu from INS days I worked in Idaho Falls. Stu was the rock in the Helena office, when not very pleasant people stirred up dissension, always a kind word of encouragement no matter what. Will always remember him fondly, buying someone lunch tomorrow.

I first met Stu on the telephone when I was the SDDO at the I&NS Detention Center in Laredo when he would call down looking for bed space for a detainee. Later I had the honor to know and work with Stewart when I was the SSA in Boise, part of the Helena DO. Stewart was a very dedicated and respected Deportation Officer. At one time he was the only Deportation Officer in the entire District. When we had large scale operations Stu would always lean us his hand in processing of the arrested aliens and his helping hand to remove our detainees. He will be greatly missed. Stewart brought me lunch on numerous occasions when he was detailed to Boise. Thanks Stew and may you rest in peace my friend. I will buy somebody lunch tomorrow. Vaya con Dios. Go with God. We will meet again my friend. May God be with the family during their sorrow and grief.
Mike Magee says
Wow, he was such a nice guy. He was in my Border Patrol class or maybe it was my Journeyman Deportation Officer class, I’m getting old. I do remember him best from when I was detailed up to Helena for a few days to do some LMR training. We both remembered each other from before, but I’m certain he would have just as hospitable to any other visiting Deportations Officer. He toke good care of me while airways in Helena. When had time one day he even took me out in the mountains to show me why they called it Big Sky Country, there were some beautiful views. I remember we both had the same middle name, Michael. He told me he named his son Michael, but not after him, but after the Archangel Michael. The man I new was a very good Deportation Officer. May God hold you in his arms, Stewart, and hold and protect your family. Rest in peace my old colleague, you left us far too early..

I had the honor of meeting Stew a few times when he came down to Denver for work, and spoke with him many times on the phone. He was a pleasure to be around and talk to. Sincerest condolences to the Carlson family.

I had the pleasure of knowing Stew for almost eleven years with my work in the Helena MT office of DHS/ICE. Stew was a great person to work with, and his sense of humor always brought a laugh and smile to me and the rest of the office. I can honestly say there never a cross word between us. I had a lot of respect for Stew. When he met Renee and fell in love with her and then marriage. He was the happiest I had ever seen him. When we talked about Renee, he would get a sparkle in his eyes and a big grin and smile. He loved his sons Michael and Gabe and was very proud of them. You could tell when we talked about his sons. I couldn’t under what why a man who was so liked and respected had to leave us so early. He found love for his beautiful bride and always loved his sons. I can only guess God had plans for him in ways we cannot comprehend. Stew I miss you and my condolences to Renee and Stew’s sons Michael and Gabe.

Thank you all for sharing memory’s of our father. It has taken me quite a long time to work up the courage to go to this site. I cant express how much I appreciate so many expressing love for our father. This tragedy has been the greatest struggle of my life I thank you for your prayers in mikeys and my own time of need. We all may have cried at his passing but I know the angels sang when they welcomed him to the pearly gates. The new sheriff came to heaven on August 15th. My father was a truly incredible man. Ive not once met one like him. I believe I can say our father, was and always will be Michael and my hero.
Michael and I will continue to live our fathers examples, teachings and continue to pass on his traits to our own children one day. He looks after all of us still as if he never left.
The world became a little darker with his passing.
I love you dad.
Sincerely Gabriel Carlson

As I write this my tears are falling. Due to my divorce from his uncle Arnold Morel his mom’s brother I lost contact with Him. We had a special bond as he confided in me when he was growing up on many things he didn’t feel comfortable talking about to anyone else. I treasure a letter he sent me when I was going through a bad time. Stu was always a loving, caring person. I’m so sorry I didn’t get to know his family. He died way too young. As my mom said “only the good die young”. I’m so happy that he had a loving family and a happy life. My sincerest condolences to his wife and children. Stu I love you my dear nephew and regret the years we lost touch. Love always Aunt MaryAnn
