Tom and I had many good conversations beginning in grade school, through high school and at the CHS reunions that followed. He fell in love with the girl of his dreams, Ileen Petersen in 1984, the year of our 20th Year Reunion. When he was asked at this reunion how many children he had, he smiled and said: “Give me a break. I’m just getting started!” He was a patient. He was funny. They had 4 great children and were married 29 years. Also, during some of those awkward dances, when no one would dance with us gals because we had no date, he would ask us for the dance. He made us feel special. Tom was a sensitive man and good friend.

I met Tom back about 1972 when he was heavily into dirt bikes and racing flat-track on a Honda XL250. Even though it was hard for him to move around allot on the bike-he was Really Fast. Everyone enjoyed being around him and I was so happy when I found out he and my cousin Ileen got together. A real inspiring guy.

I knew Tom when I was about 16 from the Power of the Word prayer group in 1978 or so. He was so friendly and nice – always smiling! He used to give me rides sometimes on his motorcycle around a track near his home. I’m so sorry for you.

I had the privilege of being a classmate of Tom’s during our “formative” years at St. Helena and CHS and, later, as State employees, saying an echoing “How are ya?” in the State Capital.
We chatted on the phone last year but I regret missing Tom’s smile at the CHS reunion.
My prayers and empathy are with his family who will hold fast his love while returning his spirit to his Creator.
